I have a lot of trouble whenever I’m packing a gift. Whether it’s Christmas or someone’s birthday, the questions are always the same: Should I put it in a simple rustic box? Or a silly, colorful bag? Does it need a bow? What about some seasonal accents, such as sprigs or pine cones?
Luckily, Japanese graphic designer Ippei Tsujio seems to have found the ultimate answer: bread. That’s right, his studio, TOAL Inc., has developed wrapping paper that makes your package look as if it’s coming fresh out of the bakery.
Tsujio says that through his work, he aims to “scoop up” common elements from our everyday life and visualize them as designs.
One batch consists of three A2-size sheets (594 × 420 mm): a baguette, recommended for encasing cylinders; a Danish pastry, ideal for palm-sized boxes; and a regular loaf of bread meant for bigger square gifts. Even the texture of the paper is rougher to represent a freshly baked crust.
It costs ¥1,320 ($9.15), and the designer estimates that international shipping will be an additional ¥2,000 ($13.85). You can order it on his website.
